Welcome to the Cru Wine Investment April 2016 Investment update

Monthly update
Dear Reader,
Market update:
The fine wine index had an excellent month of April with a growth of +1.1%, which is in line with the Year-To-Date (YTD) positive market index performance of +4.9%.
Respectively, Cru Wine Investment’s clients had a combined positive performance of 1.6% for the month of April and 3.2% YTD.

Also, the first prices emerge for the 2015 vintage. It appears that the prices of the Bordeaux 2015 en-primeur will be 10-20% higher than the 2014 vintage. This is mostly due to the quality of the wine. The 2015 vintage is said to be of excellent quality, especially for the Right Bank, Margaux and the Pessac-Leognan region. If the price in line with the quality and current market conditions, it will offer an excellent investment opportunity.

Some of our clients who decided to invest in the 2014 en-primeur campaign have made a combined annual return of 11.2%.  In particular Château Mouton Rothschild and it’s second wine Petit Mouton have performed really well, with a respective performance of  24.8% and 25% growth.

Château of the month – Leoville Las Cases
Château Leoville las Cases is one of the largest and oldest classified growths in the Medoc. And it’s also without doubt one of the leading estates in the Saint Julien appellation.

The vinyards of Leoville Las Cases cover 97 hectares, which are surrounded by a stone wall and streches between the village of Saint Julien and Château Latour.
Since the mid-20th century, the estate is owned by the Dulon family, whom are also owners of Château Potensac and Château Nenin.

Robert Parker has named Château Leoville las Cases a ‘Super Second’ (a wine that might be close to challenging for a First Growth status if an updated 1855 classification was established).
