Market update

Dear Follower,

The standard-bearer Liv-ex 100 continued its upwards trajectory in November, closing +1.6% on the previous month and signalling an unprecedented 12 months of continual growth, to reach a 5-year high.  Signs remain promising for wine investment.

The newly and soon-to-be released physical 2014 Bordeaux stock has driven demand towards a vintage that offered, and in some areas continues to offer, excellent relative value against comparable offerings on the market.  Educated and informed purchasing from our team in Bordeaux has resulted in an average +33.3% growth in GBP value to date for our 2014 en-primeur client purchases. This signifies that the much maligned en-primeur wine investment campaigns continue to offer significant upside potential, with astute purchasing.  Here’s to some attractive prices for the seemingly very good 2016 vintage!

Château of the month – Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is known for producing what some tasters think is the best Bordeaux in the world. It’s also thought of as one of the most famous, as well as expensive wines in the world. Many. Lafite Rothschild has a long and interesting history dating back to 1234. Situated in the wine-producing village of Pauillac in the Médoc region to the north-west of Bordeaux, the estate was the property of Gombaud de Lafite in 1234. Succeeding his uncle Élie de Rothschild, Lafite has been under the direction of Éric de Rothschild since 1974.

The vineyards have been replanted and restored, while the use of fertilizers and herbicides have been reevaluated. The vineyard consists of three main areas: the hillsides around the Château, the adjacent Carruades plateau to the west, and 4.5 hectares in neighbouring Saint Estèphe. The vineyard is well-drained and well-exposed to the sun.
