Welcome to the Cru Wine Investment

February 2016 Investment update

Fun Fact of the Month

“Did you know that Château Margaux had been on sale for two years, before Mister Mentzelopoulos bought the estate for 72 million francs (€11 million) in 1976. It is currently valued at +1.2 billion euros”

Monthly update

Dear reader,

Market update:

The fine wine index had an excellent month of February with +0.9%. Cru Wine Investment did particularly well with a performance of +3.4%.

In the current uncertain financial markets, fine wine has a strong positive influence on your expected investment returns. Given its low correlation with equities, it complements well a portfolio mixed with equities and bonds. We believe that a postition of 5-10% of your investment in fine wine is adequate.

Château of the month – Montrose

The history of Château Montrose is quite romantic, as the name ‘Montrose’ means pink hill and refers to the pink-purple bloom of heather that once covered the place where it stands. Montrose was first part of Château Calon Ségur’s garden until it was marked out as a separate property in 1824.

Martin and Olivier Bouygues, billionaire owners of the global Bouygues construction and communications group, are currently in charge, after buying Montrose in 2006. Château Montrose was the favourite wine of their father.

Château Montrose received a perfect score (100 points) from Robert Parker for the 1990 and 2009 vintage. The Montrose wines, which can be kept for 40 years, are variously described as powerful, dense, firm, tannic and masculine.
