Sometimes overlooked, the top end wines of Australia are always keenly priced and provide excellent drinking for any consumer.

In a recent Cru Wine blind tasting we were treated to a 2008 Shiraz from Mornington Peninsula and the wine was still so fresh with plenty of life left in it – don’t underestimate the ageing potential of Australia’s best.

The team have picked out their three highlights of the selection:

Torbreck – over the past few decades, Torbreck have had some of the very best Australian winemakers through their doors – these wines are often likened to some of the finest from the Rhône

Brokenwood – co-founded by Australia’s most renowned wine critic, James Halliday, these wines never disappoint. The Graveyard Shiraz (their flagship wine) is classed as ‘Outstanding’ by Langton’s Classification

Mitolo – one of the most awarded wineries in Australia, these wines possess Italian rusticity combined with the delights of McLaren Vale terroir

These wines represent some of Australia’s most celebrated producers and as they’re all back vintage releases, are ready to drink immediately.
