The jewel in the CVNE crown, Imperial Gran Reserva is only produced in vintages which are deemed exceptional and is an expression of the finest grapes from the best vineyards.

Hailed as “one of the greatest modern Gran Reservas” by James Suckling who awarded it 98 points, the wine oozes with velvety tannins and “layers of black fruit, dried spices, graphite, coconut and cracked pepper”.

Hailing from CVNE’s Rioja Alta-based estate, this Spanish icon truly lives up to its legendary reputation. Violets, dried herbs, and a medley of dense, ripe bramble fruit that are wrapped in fleshy, ripe tannins. The core of dark fruit is accompanied by wood spice from a combination of French and American oak. This wine undoubtedly will improve over the next 15-20 years.

When tasting the wine earlier this week, our team were blown away by the complexity and future potential. The wine exudes notes of red and dark wild berries, cigar box, baking spices and subtle vanilla nuances. On the palate, there is a freshness provided by the bright acidity which ably balances the full-bodied and powerful nature of this opulent Gran Reserva.

This elegant Gran Reserva is always a firm favourite amongst our clients and would be a welcome addition to any collection. Whilst the wine is drinking beautifully now when decanted, we would suggest cellaring a couple of cases for a few years whilst the wine continues to develop; this will be a wine to enjoy over the long haul.
