Chateau Latour has now released the 2014 Grand Vin and 2016 Les Forts de Latour, their second wine. This is a fantastic opportunity to secure cases of one of the best scoring wines in recent history from the illustrious First Growth in Pauillac.

The 2014 marks the third release of the Grand Vin since Château Latour left the en primeur system in 2012. This move set the estate apart from the other First Growths, choosing to release their wine only once they deem it ready to drink. This unique stance that they have taken allows consumers to buy wine with perfect provenance, direct from the Château cellar.

Perhaps inevitably the focus of this release will be on the Grand Vin, but not to be overlooked is also the highly acclaimed ‘second wine’ 2016 Les Forts de Latour. The cuvee was first created in 1966 and is now regarded as a great wine in its own right and certainly worthy of Classified Growth status. Unlike other second wines, the grapes that produce Les Forts de Latour always come from a distinct location on the estate rather than simply being not worthy of inclusion in the Grand Vin itself.

2014 Chateau Latour

19/20 points Jancis Robinson
“Tasted blind. Big and bold and spicy with intensity. So much on the end! Massive density. Dry tannins but luscious fruit too. Really pure and so Pauillac!”

2016 Les Forts de Latour

96/100 points Antonio Galloni
“The 2016 Les Forts de Latour is the clear highlight among these new releases from Latour. The first thing that is evident about the 2016 is the pedigree of the vintage. Undisputedly great. Readers will find a potent, dark Forts de Latour endowed with massive concentration and tons of depth. The 2016 won’t be ready to drink anytime soon, but it holds tons of promise. Hints of gravel, sage, liquorice and pencil shavings linger. The 2016 was impressive a few years ago. It is even better today. Drinking window 2026-2041.”

This is the first time either of the wines have been released and demand will doubtless be high.
