Description
One of the oldest estates in Bordeaux, Châteaux Batailley has a long, rich history that dates back to the 15th century. The richness of the soil is peppered throughout the wine, resulting in a tantalising product that is both complex and well-rounded. The vineyard sits on the southern end of Pauillac, on a plot that housed the Anglo-French battle during the Hundred Years War, with the first vines planted on this blood-soaked ground only a few years after. Today it is now planted with the harmonious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (c.70%), Merlot (c.25%), Cabernet Franc (c.3%) and Petit Verdot (c.2%) which have formed a nose of black and red fruit, whilst intense flavours of blackcurrant and spices dance together on the palate. Respected as a staple example of Pauillac wine, Château Batailley creates reliable yet spectacular wines with unquestionable finesse.
