Bodegas CZ by Pedro Alonso Cabeza de Aranda y Zarco was founded in 1650 and by 1771 it became a supplier to the British Royal Household. The business was very successful in the nineteenth century and by 1855 had 3,188 casks, or butts, of wine, with internationally recognised brands such as Solera Cabeza 1770, Tixera 1783, Trafalgar 1805, Viejo Oloroso CZ and many others. The tradition of exporting Bodega CZ Rivero sherry continued throughout the first half of the twentieth century. In 1998, Mr. Joaquín Rivero establishes Bodegas Tradición. In his quest to recover the family’s historical bond with wine and the winemaking world, he buys an old winery in the heart of the historical centre of Jerez and begins to select wines from old and exceptional, but nearly forgotten, soleras. The winery initially comprises 500 barrels of oloroso and amontillado. In 2018, Bodegas Tradición celebrated their twentieth anniversary of the foundation; they currently sell its products in 25 countries and receives 6,000 visitors a year.

This exceptional oloroso is the result of prolonged ageing in wood and in contact with the open butts of must from the wine proceeding from a Palomino grape that never had a yeast coat. Many years as a vintage, and many more under the criaderas and soleras system produce the effect found in this wine, with a mahogany colour with copper tones and a nose of notes of nuts, toasted and balsamic notes, a sweet aroma and highly evolved vinosity. In the mouth, it is velvety, powerful and harmonious, with great retronasal qualities and persistence, all due to the concentration of its components, which after more than forty years of ageing result in this intensity and complexity of aromas.
