Description
The most famous wine of the Bordeaux region, Château Lafite Rothschild definitely lives up to its hype and its second wine is no exception. Located in Pauillac, the estate exists at the north of the appellation separated by marshland from the neighbouring Saint-Estèphe. Carruades de Lafite is cultivated on a specific section of the Lafite vineyard, near to neighbouring Mouton Rothschild. Its grape varietals range from 50-70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30-50% Merlot and 0-5% of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. First produce in the mid-1850s, it is one of the oldest second wines ever produced.
Dating back to 1234 Lafite Rothschild has a long history and has been under the ownership of the Rothschild family for over 200 years. Its respect for and cultivation of its terroir has continued for centuries, culminating in the creation of its ground-breaking wines. Due to its association with the Grand Cru, Carruades de Lafite is also a highly sought-after wine.
