Description
A Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé, Clos Fourtet is placed just on the entrance to Saint-Émilion and boasts some of the most extensive underground cellars in the region. Under the guise of Pierre Lurton, Fourtet’s reputation really began to shine. Lurton eventually left to become winemaker at Cheval Blanc and was replaced by Daniel Alard, who continued to develop Fourtet’s reputation for creating delicious wines. Located on the Saint-Martin plateau, the estate’s 19 hectares of vineyard are planted with Merlot (c.72%), Cabernet Franc (c.22%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (c.6%). The final blend is aged in 60-70% new oak barriques for 18 months.
