A brilliant effort, the 2017 Chateau De Millery comes from the Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes region of Saint-Emilion (which is a colder portion of the appellation) and an estate owned by Thierry Manocourt, who also owns Chateau Figeac. Made by the Figeac team and based on 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc aged in 80% new French oak, it offers a wonderful bouquet of creme de cassis, spring flowers, violets, and subtle background oak and graphite. Medium-bodied, seamless, and beautifully balanced, I suspect it’s a great value, and it should evolve gracefully for 10-15 years. The up-and-coming enologist Thomas Duclos also consults here.

A slightly shy and closed bouquet, with blackberry aromas intertwined with floral touches. Dense and profound, the palate is pure, clean, and chiselled with much energy and vibrancy, before leaving a more mineral-infused and calcareous impression on the finish. Keep it over the next decade and more.
