Silky tannins embrace a fruity, rounded palate in the Château Ducru Beaucaillou’s first wine. Benefitting from its proximity to the Gironde River estuary, this estate experiences a unique microclimate where harsh winters and scorching summers are usually regulated. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou owes its name to its ‘Beaux Caillous’ or beautiful pebbles, which pays homage to the Gunzian gravel that decorates the Ducru-Beaucaillou’s terroir. Its 50 hectares of vineyards comprise Cabernet Sauvignon (c.65%), Merlot (c.25%), Cabernet Franc (c.5%) and Petit Verdot (c.5%). Requiring around a decade of bottle ageing before reaching its maximum potential, Ducru-Beaucaillou present a pleasing wine that will continue to develop from strength to strength.

Deep crimson with garnet rim. Darker and more savoury than the 2011. More oaky. Pure, non-sweet cassis, stony. Lightly but finely structured, with elegance rather than voluptuousness of some vintages. Charming. (JH)
