Favia, Cabernet Sauvignon, Coombsville 2020

Case Format: 3x75cl

Founded by Annie Favia and Andy Erickson in 2003, Favia is one of the most exciting names in Napa Valley currently. With experience working for Screaming Eagle, Ovid, and Dalla Valle, the pair have worked for some of the most celebrated names in the global wine community.

This wine is a direct expression of the terroir of which Favia has settled. Its ancient history charts that of volcanic eruptions and landslides, which has culminated in large deposits of debris that can be found deep within Napa Valley’s characteristic soil. A medium-full bodied wine, its Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon is an expressive wine that exhibits flavours and aromas of ripe red fruit, complete with silky tannins and endless length.

Jane Anson

Intense and concentrated, showcasing the nuanced results of the Eriksons exceptionally intuitive approach to viticulture and winemaking. Layers of velvet tannins capturing the plump cassis and blueberry fruit and setting it against deep slabs of tapenade, graphite, crayon, cloves, tea and black chocolate. Hard to argue with, compelling and just rather delicious - a clear sign that cooler-climate Coombsville is a place to look for in the intense 2020 vintage. 50% new oak. Natural yeasts, low intervention, no filtering or fining.

James Suckling

Loads of lead-pencil aromas, together with blackcurrant and oyster-shell notes that follow through to a medium to full body with a solid core of fruit and a long finish. It’s tight, with a compact mouth-feel. Give it two or three years. Better after 2025.
