Fratelli Alessandria, Barolo, Comune di Verduno 2019

Alessandria

Case Format: 6x75cl

Fratelli Alessandria is a Piedmontese wine estate in Langhe, in northwest Italy. The estate is focused on the cultivation of the Nebbiolo grape variety under the Barolo DOCG, but also produces a range of wines from other local grape varieties including Dolcetto, Barbera, Favorita and the rare red grape Pelaverga. The heart of the winery lies in the large 18th century house with its understated yet majestic lines, very close to the historic centre of the village of Verduno. The winery vinifies only estate grown grapes and has maintained a family dimension.

This Barolo is distinguished by the “spicy elegance” that is the territorial hallmark of the wines of Verduno. It is produced according to the traditional practice of blending grapes from several vineyards; in this case five: Pisapola, Riva Rocca, Campasso, Rocche dell’Olmo and Boscatto.

CRITIC REVIEWS

Monica Larner

These village-specific wines are growing in popularity, and among the various expressions on the market today, this wine from Verduno is really quite special thanks to its highly distinctive floral aromas and its delicate sense of inner balance. A new project being inaugurated with this vintage, the Fratelli Alessandria 2019 Barolo del Comune di Verduno shows a fine, streamlined mouthfeel with polished tones of river stone, crushed rose and licorice root. The aromas are refined and fragile. This is a 20,000-bottle release.

Very attractive nose with dried red berries, sandalwood, toasted spices, wet stones and undergrowth. It’s firm and tight but juicy and vivid with a full body and velvety tannins. Lingering finish. Try after 2026.
