The 2006 Barolo Monvigliero offers up freshly cut flowers, red berries and mint in a rich style that brilliantly reconciles a generous expression of fruit with a firm, classic sense of structure. There is so much to admire in the Monvigliero today, but readers should really set aside a few bottles in the deepest corner of their cellars. The elegance and pedigree are first-rate. This is another fabulous wine from Alessandria. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031.

Healthy mid ruby. Chewy fresh cherry fruit with a cool tannic edge to it. 14.5% but much more lithe than that. (WS)
