Description
Château Haut-Brion is the only property from outside the Médoc to be included in the Premier Grand Cru Classé (Classified First Growth) of the 1855 Classification and its viticultural history can be traced back centuries. Its Pessac-Léognan vineyard is planted to include Cabernet Sauvignon (c.40%), Merlot (c.18%), and Cabernet Franc (c.18%). Production for the Haut-Brion totals around 20,000 cases – smaller than any other First Growth wines. Château Haut-Brion is therefore highly sought-after. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats before maturation in new oak barrels for 22 months. Peppered with mineral aromas, this wine contains flavours and aromas of currants, smoky spices and cassis. With a higher Merlot content in comparison to its rivalling Médoc First Growths, it is both a brooding, voluptuous wine. The Château Haut-Brion also has great ageing capabilities.
