Description
The Château D’Issan is a flamboyant wine filled with a rich bouquet of aromatics. Formed on an ancient site, D’Issan is dripping in history, with records of the estate dating back to the 12th century, and a wine production that has continued for the past two centuries. Its soil is made up of multiple gravel mounds and 15m high alluvial hills which allows the ground to drain well and forces the vines to develop deep roots. This unusual terroir is what allows for Château D’Issan’s distinct characteristics. Its 52 hectares of vineyard comprises Cabernet Sauvignon (c.65%), Merlot (c.30%), Cabernet Franc (c.2%), Petit Verdot (c.2%) and Malbec (c.1%), with the vines averaging 35 years in age – with some older than 70. In turn, the combination of unusual terroir and exceptional methods in production has formed potent, silky textured wines that are some of the best in Margaux.
