Description
Roger Sabon is a family-owned estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with a range based around four different red Châteauneuf cuvées. The estate has 16 hectares (39.5 acres) under vine in Châteauneuf-du-Pape of which 15 are planted to red varieties, including Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
Winemaking is traditional with aging in a mix of barrels and vats of various sizes and ages. While the Prestige cuvée may be the flagship in terms of availability and quality-price ratio, Le Secret des Sabon is widely regarded as one of the best reds in the region – made largely from century-old Grenache vines, its price reflects its reputation. Le Secret des Sabon began as an experimental cuvée which has evolved to be one of the top wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. While there is an unmistakable glyceryl weight to Le Secret, it is more high-toned than you would initially expect. Red fruit predominates with stony and herbal accents that hint at a long life ahead.
