I was immensely impressed by the quality of the 2021 Nenin, a wine thats the fruit of an immensely strict selection—and several consecutive nights of frost protection. Offering up aromas of sweet plums, wild berries, raw cocoa, black truffles and nicely integrated new oak, its a medium to full-bodied, supple and velvety wine with lively acids, melting tannins and a layered, concentrated profile with a long, penetrating finish. Tasted twice.

The 2021 Nenin is made from 64% Merlot and 36% Cabernet Franc, aging in 35% new French oak. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it needs a little swirling to unlock notions of fresh black cherries, blackberries, and strawberry preserves, plus suggestions of clove oil, cinnamon toast, and potpourri. Light to medium-bodied, the palate is a tad dilute, featuring soft, well-managed tannins and a lively line, finishing abruptly. pH 3.53. IPT 65.
