Description
Château Phélan Ségur is a 70-hectare estate located in Saint-Estèphe. Founded by the Irishman Bernard O’Phelan in the early 20th century, it has since undergone various ownership changes; to include Xavier Gardinier in 1985 and Philippe Van de Vyvere in 2018. Situated near the Gironde estuary, its 70-hectare vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (c.58%), Merlot (c.39%), Cabernet Franc (c.1.5%) and Petit Verdot (c.1.5%) and sits on a terroir of gravel, sand and clay-based soils. The wine is aged in 50% new French oak for 16-18 months. Château Phélan Ségur is a wine that is known to age well over several decades, and comprises a rich bouquet of ripe fruits, warm spices and leather.
