Description
This superb modern Ribera del Duero gives off juicy aromas of blackberry, blueberry and dark cherry, vanilla and sweet spice waft temptingly out of the glass. Your first sip won’t disappoint, it’s smooth and silky with seriously good balance and fine chalky tannins. The grapes come from north-facing vineyards, the cooler exposition helps temper the hot climate, giving a fresh and vibrant style. This would be spot on with lamb.
Jorge Monzón is shaking up the way Ribera del Duero’s wines are seen. Where many are rich, ripe and bold, his are elegant, restrained and extremely terroir expressive. Dominio del Águila was set up in 2010 by Jorge and partner Isabel Rodero, in the village of La Aguilera. It may be a fairly new project in Ribera, but he has some pretty impressive experience under his belt, having worked at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Vega Sicilia and Bodegas Arzuaga-Navarro.
