Château Pontet Canet is a large fifth-growth property in Paulliac who can trace its history back to 1725. It is known worldwide for its environmental credentials, due to the impact of its previous technical director Jean-Michel Comme, who is considered a leading figure in biodynamic practices. Its 78 hectares of vineyard contain Cabernet Sauvignon (c.63%), Merlot (c.32%) and Cabernet Franc (c.5%), and border the illustrious Mouton Rothschild. Taken under the ownership of Alfred and Michel Tesseron, the quality of Pontet-Canet has vastly improved, seeing it blossom into a full-bodied wine that is brimming with ripe black fruits and integrated tannins.

The minerality and floral character to this is really impressive with lots of bark, currant and dried rose character. Full body, chewy yet polished tannins and a mouthwatering finish. Made from biodynamcially grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Lovely beetroot aromas with chalky tannins and vivid but integrated acidity. Superb fruit power which is satisfying and complete but retains a sense of classic restraint and savouryness. Such a lovely wine, this. Every element is spot on. (RH)
