Description
Imbued with elegance and finesse, Château Prieuré-Lichine presents a gorgeous wine that is emblematic of Margaux. A long, chequered history, the estate started off as a priory for Benedictine monks before being seized during the French revolution. From here the estate was split up and bought by numerous surrounding Margaux chateaux. It was in 1951 that Alexis Lichine formed a group who purchased the château, along with other surrounding vineyards. Today the 77.5 hectares of vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (c.50%), Merlot (c.45%) and Petit Verdot (c.5%). The only châteaux in Margaux to have vines located in all five communes, its terroir remains varied as it sees crops spread across the appellation, but mainly consists of gravel, sand and clay-based soils. This wine has great ageing potential, with the best vintages allowing for over 25 years of bottle maturing.
