Description
In the 19th century Château Rauzan-Segla was considered one of the leading second growth properties, partnered alongside the reputable Mouton Rothschild. Today Rauzan-Segla still upholds its stellar reputation for creating spectacular wines. Following a period of reputational decline, from the 1980’s onward it embarked on a renaissance before eventually being bought by Chanel in 1994. Today it comprises 45 hectares of vineyard of which are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (c.63%), Merlot (c.35%) and Cabernet Franc (c.2%) with a majority of the vines located on the Cantenac plateau. The terroir of Rauzan-Segla is mostly gravel with clay soils and the final blend is matured in 60% new oak for 18 months. Today Rauzan-Segla is honoured for creating spectacular wines, with the 2018, 2019 and 2020 vintages described as “spellbinding” by critic Jeff Leve. This wine has incredible ageing potential and properly begins to open up with age. With time it is known for delivering complex floral and spicy notes, packed with concentration and juicy ripe fruit.
