Deep cherry red with purplish rim. Aromas of dark fruits and cherries are both fresh and seductive – rich and lively at the same time, and gently floral and spicy. Big mouthful of fruit kept in shape by smooth, firm tannins. Really plush, full-bodied and caressing. And theres still that rocky Douro quality to keep it from being too rich or sweet-fruited. Dark fruit cake and chocolate with loads of heft and heat on the palate. Lifted fennel and medicinal notes, and perhaps a touch of oxidation on the finish. Layered, elegant, persistent. Intense and unrelenting – definitely needs decanting. (RH)
