Description
Occupying a single 51-hectare plot overlooking the Gironde estuary, Château Meyney benefits from one of the most enviable spots in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Steeped in history, Meyney dates itself back to the seventeenth century, at a period where the estate was owned by a group of Bordeaux monks. Today it is a subsidiary of Crédit Agricole Group, and was purchased alongside Grand-Puy Ducasse, as well as many other acclaimed estates. Using their superb terroir to their advantage, Meyney’s vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (c.60%), Merlot (c.30%) and Petit Verdot (c.10%), and benefit from some of the oldest vines in the appellation – with several reaching nearly 100 years of age. The terroir comprises gravel and sand, with a large strip of blue clay that helps both the Merlot and Petit Verdot to thrive. In turn, their alchemic blend of grapes and respect for the terroir has contributed to a spicy and complex wine that has excellent ageing potential.
