PRODUCER OF THE MONTH: INTRODUCING CHÂTEAU BRANAIRE-DUCRU
This month we’re spotlighting the historic Left Bank château: Branaire Ducru. With a history that dates back to the 17th century, this estate has lived through many unprecedented moments in time. A true jewel in the Médoc, Branaire Ducru offers an unrelenting freshness and vibrancy that not only remains the hallmark of this spectacular Fourth Growth wine, but exists as a reflection of Saint-Julien’s refreshingly oceanic climate.
During the 1980s the estate was purchased by ex-financier and President of the UGCB, Patrick Morateaux, who implemented some instrumental changes which led to the château’s elevation as one of the top wines in Saint-Julien by the time the millennium came around.
Today the legacy of the estate is carried on through Patrick’s son: François-Xavier alongside the help of leading winemaker Jean-Dominique Videau who continue to take its wines from strength to strength.
