Solaia 2020

Antinori

Case Format: 12x75cl

Solaia is one of the most famous wines from the Italian wine company: Marchesi Antinori. The Antinori family have been producing wine for over six centuries, creating some of the finest wines in the world. Amongst their portfolio is the Tignanello estate, who host a twenty-hectare vineyard that produces their iconic Solaia wine. As part of this winery, Solaia is considered a “Super Tuscan”, therefore joining the ranks of some of the best wines being made today.

Situated in the heart of Chianti Classico, Solaia’s terroir consists of marine marlstone that is rich in both limestone and schist, in a micro-climate that benefits from hot days and cool nights. Its first vintage was created in 1978 with an initial blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, however the estate famously cultivates Italy’s indigenous Sangiovese grape which has since made its way into the wine.

CRITIC REVIEWS

Aldo Fiordelli

The 2020 is probably not the best ever vintage of Solaia, but in the glass it shines. The wine is dark and concentrated, with restrained cassis mingling with leafy, flowery notes and the clove aroma of the 100% new French oak. Very youthful at the moment, it deserves more time to develop more complexity, but the attack is already soft and velvety, with tannins developing volume on the mid-palate, then a toasty tobacco finish. Fresh acidity is typical of the Chianti Classico region as well as the contribution of Sangiovese. Powerful, graceful and energetic.

James Suckling

Subtle and beautiful on the nose with currants, flowers and light sage aromas that follow through to a full body with ultra-fine tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Extremely polished and poised. Classy. Best after 2028.
