Dec fell in love the wine industry half by accident after he took a sales job for United Cellars in Sydney aged 21, following studying an arts degree at uni in England. He was told he would be paid simply to learn about wine for the first two months, which was all he needed to hear…

A year later he returned to London in search of a more international understanding of the wine industry. Studying the WSET level 4 Diploma whilst working as a Sommelier was the plan, and throughout this period he represented such fine wine focused establishments as 67 Pall Mall and Annabel’s, working his way up to Head Sommelier level, whilst winning a few Somm awards with the Court of Master Sommeliers in the process. He was headhunted to set up the wine programme for super luxury hotel, The Retreat in Iceland, during the Covid Period, and after 18 months of directing the programme there he again realised London was the place to be for a job in wine, and returned to focus firstly on Private Client Sales, and then sourcing new and exciting wines for our clients.

Although incredibly knowledgeable of the wine scene as a whole, Dec’s biggest passion is the wines of Italy, and Piedmont specifically. He spends his Octobers harvesting in the vineyards of Barolo with his good friend and winemaker, Chiara Boschis, and is hoping to bring more Italian appreciation to his clients and colleagues at Cru.
