BORDEAUX 2022 EN PRIMEUR

The new En Primeur season is here and the vintage is poised to be an exceptional one. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just starting on your journey, this is your chance to secure some of the finest wines from the region.

Over the coming months, this page will act as your guide to this year’s En Primeur campaign. Our team travelled to Bordeaux in April for our annual tastings with châteaux – an essential trip for us to ensure we’re providing you with the best advice and information. We’ve compiled our full report on the vintage, the latest releases and insights to Bordeaux below, along with which releases we feel offer the best opportunity for you to purchase during the campaign.

“The style of wines across the vintage and the appellations is defined by the small details and decisions from the winemaking teams, which have been crucial. From reactions to the conditions and decisions around minimising soil work, canopy management to picking dates; these methods all needed to be spot on and those with the technical capacity and know-how have been richly rewarded.”
Gregory Swartberg, CEO Cru Wine

Releases have now started in earnest and will last until the end of June. If you would like to express interest in particular wines, please complete your wish-list on our register interest page.

What the critics are saying about Bordeaux 2022...

“I have never come across anything like the 2022 vintage. It was one of the hottest and driest growing seasons in the history of France’s most famous wine region, yet it produced thousands of opulent and structured but still fresh and balanced wines…For me personally, it sets a new benchmark for Bordeaux.”
James Suckling

“Looking at the wines, there is clearly a common theme of ripeness and power, yet they hold onto a sense of freshness as well as complexity…There is an incredible diversity in the style of the final wines regarding their density, structure, and overall balance due to differences in yields, terroir, and winemaking. But make no mistake, the top wines are rich, powerful wines that bring beautiful fruit as well as substantial, velvety tannins.”
Jeb Dunnuck

“The 2022s are some of the most memorable young wines I have ever tasted in Bordeaux. The best 2022s are magnificent, viscerally thrilling wines that show what is possible with thoughtful approaches to viticulture and winemaking.”
Antonio Galloni, Vinous

“The best examples show surprising freshness and supreme charm with a large number of wines that are both immensely appealing and approachable but will also age.”
Decanter

“Bordeaux has produced some monumental wines in 2022…at its best, this is a vintage of remarkable concentration, energy and harmony.”
William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

“The consistency of quality is just one surprise to come out of this vintage of extremes. The other amazing twist is the styles. There is a luminosity to many of the wines from 2022 that defies what we thought we knew about Bordeaux varieties. It whispers previously untold truths about the potential of the region’s terroirs and vines in the face of climate change.”
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW

“One thing for sure is that 2022 is a vintage that will be referenced for many years to come, and I’ve tasted many exceptional wines that are truly worth getting excited about.”
Jane Anson

“The 2022 vintage contains what I often refer to as “snow-capped peaks.” If you want to get numerical, wines that may eventually merit perfect scores that I rarely give out. The crème de la crème is blessed with kaleidoscopic aromatics, intense fruit, finely-sculpted tannins, structure, elegance and length. Above all, contrary to what the growing season implied, they are suffused with freshness. They immediately tempt you back to the glass for another sip. The highest performers will dazzle. They will be extroverts, show-offs whose talent cannot be denied. They’re not warbling Neil Youngs. They’re Freddie Mercury strutting the stage. The best will rock you.”
Neal Martin, Vinous
