CRITIC REVIEWS

Quite pale. Very light with extremely marked acidity. Bit lean and hollow – in fact almost feral by this stage with a finish that is drying out.

In a blind tasting of the 1982s in the fall of 2002, this wine put on its best performance ever. Some of the objectionable, dirty aromas that had been such a flaw early seem to have taken a backseat to the herbaceous-scented sweet cherry and plum-like fruit. The wine is medium-bodied, shows considerable amber at the edge, and still has a somewhat earthy, mushroomy, even manure-like aroma, but it is not nearly as intense as it once was. In any event, this is a controversial wine to drink up, as it is not going to get any better. Last tasted, 9/02.
