The younger sibling of Château Ausone, the Chapelle d’Ausone is not one to be overlooked. The distinct personality of Cabernet Franc is matched with Merlot and offset by hints of Cabernet Sauvignon, to develop well rounded flavours of crisp, dark fruit. Plucked from young vines (up to ten years old) and aged in 100% new barrels for 20 months, Chapelle d’Ausone’s youthful process is still grounded in tradition. Manual harvests, combined with Ausone’s chalky limestone terroir contribute to an alchemic blend that sees the wine glide through flavours of rich fruits and piquant minerality.

50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Barrel sample. Black core, purple rim. Intense, dark fruited and expressive on the nose. Theres the lovely pencil-shavings character of Cabernet Franc and the generosity of Merlot. Very ripe cassis but not overripe. Deep and full in the mouth, slightly sweet and sour at the moment, needing time to mesh. Juicy freshness on the finish and smooth, deep tannin texture. Chewy and juicy on the finish. (JH)

50% the two Cabernets! Tasted blind. Sweet, oaky nose. Then a very drying finish and not much fruit in between. Salty finish.
