Château l’Évangile is a wellknown winery in the Pomerol appellation of the Bordeaux region. Property of Domaine Baron de Rothschild this 22 hectares vineyard is mainly composed of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). Here, terroir gives its best to offer the finest Merlot of Bordeaux region. Certified biodynamic as of the 2020 vintage under the viticultural lead of Juliette Couderc, there has been a subtle stylistic change to the wine. The estate has evolved into producing a more elegant claret by placing an emphasis on picking earlier to retain freshness, while using less new oak to enhance fruit purity.

Tasted blind. Neat, introvert nose without opulence. Quite rich on the palate, though, with alcohol and tannin. Big and bold. Maybe just a tad too much for some palates.

L’Evangile 2018 is deep garnet purple in color. It features notes of crushed rocks, pencil shavings, and tree bark, with a core of boysenberries and Morello cherries. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is firm and grainy, with muscular fruit and great length.
