Francois Raveneau

Case Format: 12x75cl

Max score: 18.0

Nestled within the revered Chablis region of Burgundy, Domaine François Raveneau’s Chablis Premier Cru Montée de Tonnerre is a wine that embodies the epitome of this prestigious appellation.

The name François Raveneau is synonymous with excellence in Chablis. For generations, this estate has been a guardian of tradition and a beacon of quality, crafting wines that are celebrated by connoisseurs worldwide. Montée de Tonnerre is one of their most illustrious Premier Cru vineyards, and this wine is a testament to their commitment to showcasing Chablis at its finest.

Crafted exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, this wine hails from the Montée de Tonnerre Premier Cru vineyard, renowned for its unique terroir. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand and vinified with meticulous attention to detail, allowing the pure expression of Chablis to shine through.

Following fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels, a process that imparts depth and complexity while preserving the inherent freshness of Chablis. The aging period, typically around 18 months, nurtures the wine to its peak of flavour and texture.

In your glass, François Raveneau’s Montée de Tonnerre Premier Cru reveals its pale gold hue, enticing with aromas of green apples, citrus zest, and a subtle flinty minerality. On the palate, it offers a harmonious balance of vibrant acidity and a silky, refined texture. Flavours of ripe pear, lemon curd, and a distinct saline quality dance elegantly, leading to a long and mineral-driven finish.

NB tasted this before Vaillons. Oak more evident on the nose though not dominant or intrusive. Fresh with a hint of newly picked elderflower, possibly ginger. Again more oak on the palate but beautifully integrated. Firm, dry and savoury, a touch smoky and the beginning of a nutty oatmeal flavour and texture. Iintense, dry and a mouthwatering freshness on the finish even though theres a slight char/reductive aftertaste. (JH)
