Description
In appearance the wine is deep purple and, on the nose, it has pronounced aromas of crushed violets, black fruit and spice. It is intense yet delicate, with lifted, perfumed fruit and garrigue characters of wild mountain thyme. Full-bodied, it has rounded tannins with crisp acidity and a long mineral finish. This is a 100% Garnacha, made from old, concentrated, bush-vine fruit selected from 70-100 year old vines selected from the villages of Acered and Alarba in Aragon. El Escocés Volante is the Spanish operation of Scottish-born winemaker Norrel Robertson MW with a particular emphasis on the Garnacha grape variety. Today El Escocés Volante owns more than 25 hectares of that variety, with vines aged between 50 and 115 years. With his wild winemaking techniques, Norrel is making his mark on this region with raw, fantastically assertive Garnacha wines.
