Description
Chateau Lafon-Rochet is a wine producer based in Saint-Estèphe. Their 45 hectares of vineyard are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (c.56%), Merlot (c.40%) and Cabernet Franc (c.4%) and sit on a terroir of clay-gravel soil, opposite Château Lafite. The final blend is matured in 40% new oak barriques for 18 months. Lafon-Rochet has continued to grow from strength to strength in recent decades, originally criticised for being overly tannic, changes in viticultural techniques have since seen them develop supple, elegant and expressive wines. Their grand vin needs around ten years of bottle ageing to be fully enjoyed.
