Le Dome, Saint-Emilion 2019

Le Dome

Case Format: 6x75cl

Max score: 97.0

While traditional Bordeaux chateaux mix together grapes from all over their vineyard, Le Dôme represents terroir in its truest sense, being a ‘single-vineyard’ wine. Le Dôme’s terroir has a single identity, and a real personality, that they do everything in their power to unearth. The result is a wine as rare in character as it is in quantity. Despite its grapes being hand-picked and hand-sorted, Le Dôme is a wine that you’ll be lucky to get your hands on. With a limited release of roughly 2,500 cases each vintage. Le Dôme
is made with majority (~80%) Cabernet Franc as if often referred to as ‘high-octane’ and ‘on steroids’, it opens it up to its freest and fullest extent – revealing a wine that is wild, opulent and fragrant as well as being rich, concentrated and lively. It’s a wine that drinks well after 3-4 years but stays alive for decades.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Le Dome is a little closed and broody to begin, unfurling to reveal a profound core of preserved plums, fruitcake, chocolate-covered cherries and mocha with nuances of star anise, Sichuan pepper and cardamom. The medium to full-bodied palate is beautifully perfumed with loads of floral notes emerging among the black fruits, framed by remarkably soft, velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and fragrant. Gorgeous wine!

James Suckling

A rich, fragrant red with aromas of mulberries, dark plums, chocolate, cedar, cloves, mushrooms and cigar box. Crushed stone, too. Full-bodied with fine, creamy tannins. Polished and velvety with an intense, perfumed core of dark fruit. Better from 2026.
