Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 2023

Mouton Rothschild

Case Format: 6x75cl

Drinking Window: 2042.0

Le Petit Mouton Rothschild is the beautiful second wine from the Mouton Rothschild estate. An illustrious estate, with a fascinating history, Château Mouton-Rothschild has been making wine since Roman times. Under the management of the Rothschild family since 1853, it wasn’t until 1922 when Baron Philippe de Rothschild took the helm, that the estate transformed.

Le Petit Mouton Rothschild made its debut in the 1993 vintage. It’s made with grapes from younger vines in the First Growth vineyard, and is harvested, vinified and bottled with the same attention to detail as the grand vin. The result is a silky, soft and delicate wine, that will often contain flavours and aromas of blackberries, coffee and mocha.

CRITIC REVIEWS

91-93
William Kelley

Aromas of dark berries, cassis and cigar wrapper introduce the 2023 Le Petit Mouton, a medium-bodied, fleshy wine with good depth and density, its lively core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins, concluding with a penetrating finish. Its a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2023 Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild is deep garnet-purple in color. It slowly emerges from the glass with powerful scents of cassis, plum preserves, and tar plus underlying nuances of menthol and pencil shavings. The medium-bodied palate is soft and refreshing, with just enough mid-palate fruit and a mineral-laced finish. The blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, with pH 3.74. The alcohol is 13.3%.
