Domaine Leflaive, based in Puligny-Montrachet, is one of the most important producers in the Côte de Beaune. Focusing almost entirely on white wines made from Chardonnay, the Domaine makes four grand cru wines and four premier crus in Puligny-Montrachet. Les Combettes is one of the most renowned premier cru vineyards in the commune of Puligny Montrachet, largely owned by the Domaine Leflaive which gives life to this splendid wine. The old Chardonnay vineyards give few but very concentrated bunches. Part of the vinification and aging take place in barrique. The aromas are splendid, notes of exotic fruit and roasting combine with dried fruit and spices. On the palate it is savory and full-bodied, with a long persistence.

The Leflaives 0.73ha of vines in Combettes were planted in 1960 and 1972, and consistently produce very small, intensely flavoured berries. And this is intense stuff, with beeswax, fresh pastry and citrus peel notes, stylish 20% new wood and remarkable palate length.

Gorgeous mineral and smoky on the nose, very finely oaked and creamy. Tiny berries that give a creamy roundness that wraps up the intensity on the mid palate. Concentration and finesse at the same time. Pure and persistent. (JH)
