CRITIC REVIEWS

Tasted blind at the 2007 Bordeaux horizontal in Southwold. Jonathan Maltus’s Les Asteries 2007 has a tightly wound floral bouquet with fresh dark fruits: black cherries, cassis and a touch of apricot blossom with well-integrated oak. The palate is well-integrated with supple tannins, touches of smoke and spice, well balanced but lacking a little complexity towards the conservative finish. I regard this as “competent” for the vintage. Tasted January 2011.

A Jonathan Maltus wine. Spicy and compact on the nose. Round and succulent without any exaggeration on the finish except it’s a little pinched. Good ripe fruit in the beginning but slightly hard work towards the end!
