Malartic Lagraviere 2023

Malartic Lagraviere

Case Format: 6x75cl

Drinking Window: 2042.0

Previously owned by the champagne house Laurent-Perrier, Château Malartic Lagravière was purchased by the Bonnie family in 1997, who still run the estate and continue to create elegant wines that are worthy of its Cru Classé de Graves status. The vineyard comprises 47 hectares that are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon (c.50%), Merlot (c.25%) and Cabernet Franc (c.25%). Its terroir constitutes gravel and clay with limestone soils. After harvest, the wine is aged in 50% new French oak, where it has limited skin contact. The Malartic Lagravière constitutes a well-balanced wine that continues to grow in complexity as it ages, seeing it develop the distinct mineral characteristics that are so usually typified by wines of Pessac-Léognan.

Yohan Castaing

The 2023 Malartic Lagravière, a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, exudes aromas of dark wild berries, violet, mulberries, spices and licorice, complemented with a delicate touch of oak. Medium to full-bodied, supple and elegant with bright acids and a delicate mid-palate, it’s refined and less structured than the 2022 vintage, making it a classic expression from this estate.

Jeb Dunnuck

The 2023 Château Malartic-Lagravière comes from 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. It has a rocking bouquet of ripe red and black fruits interwoven with classic spice (sandalwood?), dried flowers, and smoky tobacco nuances. Its medium to full-bodied, has a supple, elegant mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Its as charming as they get and will shine with just short-term cellaring.
