Tempo d’Angelus 2019

Case Format: 6x75cl

Tempo d”Angelus is a new addition to the range of wines of Château Angélus, made under the Bordeaux appellation, offers a more streamlined version of its illustrious elders, with which it shares the same depth and complexity while being at the same time more approachable young. The aim of Tempo d’Angélus is to demystify the approach to great wines, in offering a top quality wine, produced from the great Angélus terroirs and made with the expertise of its teams, at the most affordable price levels. It has been created to provide a window that opens out onto the world of grands crus, which will allow demanding wine enthusiasts to enjoy a wine that is structured, complex and delicious to drink, without having to wait 15 or 20 years.

Readers looking for a taste of the quality and style of Angélus can check out the 2019 Temp DAngélus, which is a Merlot-dominated blend made in slightly larger quantities. It has a pretty, classy, medium-bodied style as well as ample cherry and currant fruits, notes of cedarwood and underbrush, medium body, and a clean, balanced, delicious style that will keep for 4-6 years, if not longer.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Tempo dAngelus is medium to deep garnet-purple colored. It gives up notes of baked plums, chocolate-covered cherries, and spice cake with hints of potpourri and pencil lead. Medium-bodied, the palate is packed with juicy black fruits and soft tannins, finishing refreshing. This is designed to be an approachable, drinkable wine in its youth and retails at around 20 euros in France. The vines are located in Cotes de Castillon (even though it is labelled Bordeaux), not far from Montlandrie, from several large blocks. Restructuring is occurring with the aim of being able to increase production.
