Vinedo Chadwick 2009

Errazuriz

Case Format: 6x75cl

Viñedo Chadwick represents the Chadwick family’s long cherished desire to honour the memory of the late Don Alfonso Chadwick Errázuriz with an Ultra Premium red wine showcasing the ancestry, tradition, and expertise of the Chadwick-Errázuriz family for producing fine wines reflecting the family’s passion for excellence. The aim is to make an elegant wine with freshness and purity, showing the Maipo Valley at its highest level. Although Don Alfonso never saw the finished wine, he is remembered with every bottle of Viñedo Chadwick. Since its inaugural release Viñedo Chadwick has consistently received the highest praise and recognition throughout its entire history, including being Robert Parker’s highest-rated Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile for five consecutive vintages.

Aromatic and fully scented on the nose, expressive and forward with toasty scents, blackcurrant and dark bramble fruits. So smooth and suppe on the palate, lively and energetic from the get go with a rush of fresh acidities, bright and highly-toned strawberry, creamy raspberry and perfumed red cherry. Lovely bite and detail to the fruits. Clean and clear, supple and agile, great movement with layers and depth of tannins, freshness and finesse. So well constructed, generous, complete, enjoyable and eminently drinkable. A great time to enjoy this with gorgeous Cabernet markers in the ripe fruit, dark liquorice edges which are nicely integrated and give structure, and the cool minty fresh finish. Gorgeous. Ageing 22 months in French oak barrels, 100% new. One of the warmest vintages ever recorded in Alto Maipo with exceptionally warm weather towards the end of the season in March and April. Grapes were harvested in two separate batches to ensure optimal maturity, 10 days apart. One of three new library releases of Viñedo Chadwick entering the Place de Bordeaux in March. Owner Eduardo Chadwick, winemaker Francisco Baettig.

Sandalwood, orange peel, spiced raspberry fruits, with balasamic character alongside creamy smoked caramel and pomegranate, this is a fascinating example of a well aged Vinedo Chadwick from a warm vintage. Ripe, welcoming tannins, this is rich and powerful, with the black pepper and turmeric spice that is very much a signature of Maipo. Extremely different in character from a 15 year old European Cabernet, full of generous Maipo signature, and this is reaching its plateau for drinking, although there is still tension in the wine and it is at a lovely moment to open and share. 95% new oak. Francisco Baettig winemaker since the inaugural vintage in 1999, Edouardo Chadwick owner.
