Haut-Bergey 2020

At 42 hectares in size, the Pessac-Leognan based Château Haut-Bergey is known for producing beautifully rich wines. 40 hectares are used for cultivating red grapes, whilst the remaining two are reserved for white. The red wine vineyards comprise Cabernet Sauvignon (c.43%), Merlot (c.8%), Cabernet Franc (c.5%) and Malbec (c.1%). The vineyards are spread out around the appellation, benefiting from a varied terroir that mostly comprises gravel-based soil, with vines averaging 30 years in age. There is no malolactic fermentation and the wine is aged in 30% new French oak for 10-12 months. The result? A distinctive, poetic wine that contains flavours of crunchy red and juicy black fruits, both of which are shaped by delicate tannins that gracefully develop with age.
