Description
Château La Croix de Gay has a long history, entrenched within the Pomerol appellation. The owners of the vineyard – the Raynaud-Lebrereton family – have been based in Bordeaux since the 15th century. In recent years the vineyard has decreased in size, selling some of its coveted plots to the neighbouring Château Lafite Rothschild and Château L’Evangile. Now standing at four hectares in size, the vineyards are planted with Merlot (c.86%) and Cabernet Franc (c.14%). The estate benefits from two types of soil: Gunz gravel on the upper Pomerol terrace and the southern slop of the plateau. The terroir nurtures the distinct characteristics of both the Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which sees complexity and roundness in the final blend. A wine that can be enjoyed both young and after a period of ageing, expect delicious aromas of violet and truffle.
