Sarah Jane Evans MW
Perfumed with complex aromatics of dark plums, fennel, with leather and smoke. Silky, supple entry. Counterpoint between bright morello cherry and redcurrant freshness, sweet spices, and cedar undertones, building to a full, fleshy mid-palate. Almost half and half Merlot/Cabernet Franc in the blend, compared to 2013 which was 85% Merlot. Le Petit Cheval accounted for 26% of the year’s production with no 3ème vin made. A cool, rainy start to the year, but culminating in the warmest September and October of the past twenty years. The later harvested Cabernet France benefited from the final stage ripening.

Tasted blind. Some super-ripe black cherry notes on the nose with a bit of mint. Rather Derenoncourt-like in its burgundian sweet structure! Wild and gamey.
