Description

Existing on a plateau of robust, historic clay soil, Château Marsau’s breath-taking wine is a direct expression of its poetic terroir. This lesser-known Côtes de Francs property has been lauded by Robert Parker as “The Petrus of the Côtes de Francs” – high acclaim that is evidenced through its elegant, voluptuous, and expressive wine. Residing at the top of a hill, its vineyards benefit from a superb microclimate with excellent sunshine hours. Planted to 100% Merlot, both the hot climate and predominantly clay soils allow this grape variety to thrive. In most vintages annual production stands close to 2,500 cases, making this a rare, highly sought-after wine. Catch it while you can.

Composed of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2020 Mangot is scented of ripe black plums, blackberry preserves and black cherry compote, followed by hints of licorice, dark chocolate and cardamom, with a waft of wild mushrooms. The medium to full-bodied palate gives a great intensity of juicy black fruits with soft, rounded tannins and just enough freshness to support, finishing earthy.

The 2020 Château Mangot is 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a solid, medium-bodied profile, with plenty of dark fruit, but theres a distinct, herbal, almost vegetal character that certainly detracts from what would be normally be an outstanding wine. Give it 2-3 years and maybe, hopefully, this green, celery seed-like character will disappear.
