The 2020 Rauzan-Ségla is showing brilliantly in bottle. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis and minty blackberries mingled with violets and licorice, its medium to full-bodied, suave and seamless, with a deep core of vibrant fruit, beautifully refined tannins and a harmonious, integrated profile that exudes elegance. A wine of immense character and refinement, its the best vintage from this estate in recent times.

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc. 60% new oak. Very dark like black cherries. Really seductive aroma: sweet but not overly sweet black and red fruit and ever so slightly floral. Open and scented. Clear impression of sweet oak spice but it does not override the fruit. Plenty of oak sweetness on the palate too, the tannins smooth and rounded. Not subtle but plenty of seductively oaky pleasure. (JH)
